Kwara State has reaffirmed its commitment to agricultural transformation and sustainable food security through active participation at the 47th National Council on Agriculture and Food Security (NCAFS) held in Kaduna between 2nd to 7th November, 2025.
The five-day policy meeting, convened by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, gathered stakeholders to review policies and chart new pathways for national food sufficiency under the theme “Food Sovereignty and Food Security in an Era of Renewed Hope.”
The Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Afees Abolore Alabi, who represented the State, noted that Kwara’s participation reflects the State’s unwavering alignment with the Federal Government’s renewed drive for sustainable food systems.
Dr. Abolore explained that under the leadership of His Excellency, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, Kwara State has made decisive investments in mechanised farming, community-level interventions and capacity-building initiatives designed to empower farmers, enhance productivity and promote food self-sufficiency.
He further stated that the National Council on Agriculture and Food Security remains a valuable platform for states to exchange ideas, share best practices and adopt evidence-based recommendations capable of driving inclusive agricultural growth across the federation.
According to the Commissioner, Kwara stands to gain immensely from the resolutions of the Council, particularly in expanding access to agricultural finance, improving extension service delivery and deepening collaboration with Federal agencies and partners to scale up local production.
Dr. Abolore reaffirmed that Kwara will continue to strengthen partnerships, embrace innovation and maintain policy consistency in line with its goal of building a resilient and competitive agricultural economy that ensures food for all.
