•Omo Adugbo not our staff, an impostor: Presidency
Hon. Sunday Asefon, the Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Students Engagement, has distanced himself from the recent attacks on the Kwara State traditional rulers, and other public figures in the state by the Offa PDP Chairmanship Candidate in the 2024 Local Government election in Kwara State, Comrade Salahudeen Lukman, also known as Eluku Omo Adugbo (AIG).
Asefon made the clarification in a statement after receiving several complaints about how Lukman has baselessly criticised and consistently attacked Kwara State monarchs, and other highly placed individuals in the state since he was defeated by the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) with a wide margin in the last Local Government election.
“I have received complaints over public activities, especially criticisms directed at highly placed individuals by Mr Salahudeen Lukman, popularly known as ‘Omo Adugbo’. I am constrained to publicly distance myself from the public activities of Omo Adugbo, particularly his activist style of politics, which often leads him to criticise respected public figures, especially those I hold in high esteem,” the lead of the statement read.
The SSA to the President said that given the differences in his and the Offa PDP Chairmanship Candidate’s public conduct, it was pertinent for him to inform the public that Comrade Lukman’s disrespectful behaviour and public misconduct, including attacks on Kwara State traditional rulers, and respected individuals, weren’t approved by him.
“Considering the wide divergence in our public conducts, I must now inform the members of the public that whatever opinion, written or verbal, or any misconduct directed against anyone by Omo Adugbo is not sanctioned or approved by me, and they are done strictly by his private capacity with no bearing to me, either in a private or office capacity,” Hon. Asefon added.
He further said Comrade Salahudeen Lukman was neither his official staff nor his Chief of Staff, adding that the self-styled Offa-born politician should be held responsible for any of his public engagement and conduct that is defaming and inflammatory. “I repeat, I am not a party to Omo Adugbo’s public conduct of any kind,” Hon. Sunday Asefon reiterated.
Comrade Salahudeen Lukman has not skipped a day without hurling insults at and attacking Kwara State traditional rulers, and some respected individuals since he lost the 2024 Offa Local Government election to the APC candidate. Political observers have associated his public misconduct and disrespect for public figures with his electoral loss.
