NNPC Ltd Courts Global Investors at Gastech 2025, Showcases Opportunities in Nigeria’s Energy Sector

2 min read

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has stepped up efforts to attract global capital into Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, highlighting untapped reserves and emerging opportunities at the 2025 Gastech Exhibition and Conference in Milan, Italy.

Speaking during a live Energy Talk session with NBC’s Hala Gorani, NNPC Ltd.’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, positioned Nigeria as one of Africa’s most promising energy investment destinations, citing government reforms and ongoing infrastructure projects as major enablers.

Ojulari noted that while international firms are already investing in gas-based industries such as petrochemicals and methanol plants, further participation is needed to expand compressed natural gas (CNG) infrastructure, a key plank of the Federal Government’s plan to power the transport sector with cleaner fuels.

On the upstream side, Ojulari revealed that Nigeria still holds over 200 undeveloped oil fields and has the potential to lift production well above the current 1.7 million barrels per day, offering fresh prospects for investors willing to finance new exploration and development.

The NNPC boss also underlined the company’s low-carbon agenda, pointing to investments in carbon capture, energy efficiency, and flare reduction to meet the environmental requirements of global financing partners.

Key projects under execution include the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline and the NLNG Train 7 expansion, both designed to unlock new markets and enhance Nigeria’s role in the global gas supply chain.

“Nigeria’s energy transition strategy is anchored on tackling energy poverty,” Ojulari said, stressing the role of natural gas as the “fuel of choice” for industrialisation and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) as a cleaner cooking alternative for millions of households across Africa.

With more than 50,000 professionals and 1,000 exhibitors from 150 countries in attendance, Gastech 2025 has provided NNPC Ltd. a high-profile platform to pitch Nigeria’s energy assets to global investors at a time of rising competition for capital in the sector.
