NFF Maintains Integrity of President Federation Cup Draw

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has come to the defense of its recent draw for the 2025 President Federation Cup, stating that it was conducted in line with global best practices in football. NFF Executive Committee member George Aluo responded to criticisms regarding the selection of venues for the quarter-final matches, describing the objections as misguided.
According to the fixtures, the quarter-final matches will feature Abakaliki FC against Nasarawa United in Benin City, Wikki Tourists against Ikorodu City in Bwari, Abuja, Akwa United against Kwara United in Enugu, and Rangers International against Plateau United at the Area 3 Stadium, Abuja. All matches are scheduled to take place on May 3.
Some concerns have been raised on social media about the venue for the match between Ikorodu United and Wikki Tourists, with some suggesting that the location may favor the Bauchi-based team. Aluo, who is also the Chairman of the Nigeria National League (NNL), emphasized that the NFF’s focus should be on ensuring fair officiating, regardless of the venue.
“The corporate sector is observing our actions,” Aluo said. “We must avoid introducing unnecessary sentiments to a competition that aims to attract more corporate sponsors.”
The NFF also addressed a petition filed by Bayelsa United FC, which contested the eligibility of five players of Nasarawa United FC. After a thorough examination, the NFF found that the players were duly registered and licensed to participate in the competition.
“After thorough examination of your claims, it is our findings that the listed five players are in the submitted list of Nasarawa United Football Club for registration for the 2025 President Federation Cup,” the NFF stated. “Thus, your protest lacks substance and merit, and therefore did not succeed.”
