In a renewed demonstration of its commitment to improving access to quality healthcare for all, the Kwara State Government has distributed hospital and laboratory equipment, essential drugs and other medical supplies to the State Hospital Management Board and Primary Healthcare Centres across the state.
The intervention, carried out under the Human Capital Opportunities for Prosperity and Equity (Project HOPE) initiative, marks another milestone in the AbdulRazaq-led administration’s sustained investment in the health sector, particularly in revitalizing primary healthcare as the first point of contact for most citizens.
Performing the official handover, the Commissioner for Finance and Chairman of the State Project HOPE Steering Committee, Dr. Hauwa Nuru, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to building a functional and people-centred health system that leaves no one behind.
The Commissioner noted that Project HOPE is one of the administration’s flagship programme designed to bridge long-standing gaps in healthcare infrastructure, manpower and service delivery, especially at the grassroots.
She charged the benefiting health facilities to make judicious use of the items, assuring that the state government remains resolute in providing the resources needed for efficient and quality service delivery.
“Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s vision is clear; to make healthcare accessible, affordable and reliable for every Kwara resident, regardless of location. This gesture is another step towards achieving that vision,” Dr. Nuru stated.
The Executive Secretary, Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency (KWSPHCDA), Prof. Nusirat Elelu, lauded the Governor for his consistent support and huge investments in the health sector, especially in primary healthcare and described the gesture as a reflection of the present administration’s unwavering resolve to reposition the state’s health system for efficiency and sustainability.
“We are witnessing the fruits of a deliberate strategy to strengthen our PHC system through infrastructure upgrades, supply of essential commodities and capacity-building for health workers. This is how we build a healthier Kwara,” Prof. Elelu said.
Receiving the items on behalf of the beneficiary healthcare facilities, the Executive Secretary, Kwara State Hospital Management Board, Dr. Abdulraheem Malik, expressed profound appreciation to the state government for the intervention, pledging that the supplies would be properly utilized to enhance patient care and improve service delivery across all facilities.
The equipment distributed include outreach tricycles, motorcycles, weighting scales for adult and child, hospital bed and mattresses, delivery couch, heamatology analyzers, other laboratory equipment, sphygmomanometer, laptops, dressing trolleys, essential drugs, medical supplies, among others.
