Kano State Committee Heads to Edo to Investigate Uromi Village Killings

A high-powered committee led by Kano State Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, has departed for Edo State to investigate the recent killings in Uromi Village. The committee was constituted by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in response to growing concerns over the violent attacks, which claimed over 16 lives and displaced many residents, including indigenes of Kano State.
The committee comprises prominent figures, including: Emir of Rano, Ambassador Mohammad Isa Umar, Commissioners for Religious Affairs, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Special Duties, and Women Affairs, Chairman of Bunkure Local Government Area and Other top officials.
The committee’s mandate is to investigate, consult, and recommend sustainable solutions. This fact-finding mission and peace-building initiative aim to restore confidence and prevent further violence in the affected community.
During their week-long stay, the committee will hold consultations with; Edo State Governor, Heads of security agencies,Traditional rulers and Civil society organizations.
This initiative is part of a broader intervention by the Northern Governors Forum to demonstrate solidarity, promote national unity, and respond proactively to rising insecurity across the country. The committee is committed to justice, peace, and reconciliation, and their findings will inform recommendations for sustainable solutions.
The Kano State government has condemned the attack, describing it as a heinous act that must be met with an unwavering response from security and judicial institutions. The government has expressed its deepest sympathy for the families and friends of the victims and urged President Bola Tinubu and Edo Governor Monday Okpebholo to denounce the act and ensure the perpetrators are swiftly prosecuted.
