In a significant step towards digital empowerment, Ilorin West Local Government Chairman, Honourable Shehu Abdulrahman Babatunde Ladan, has officially launched a free ICT training and certification program for 1,000 youths in the local government area. The initiative, which aims to bridge the digital divide and equip young people with essential skills, took place at the Local Government ICT Center on Kuntu, Agbooba Road, Ilorin West, Kwara State.

Expressing his pride and sense of purpose, Hon. Ladan described the program as a “milestone for the community,” marking Kwara State’s continued investment in youth development and digital education under the leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. “We are thrilled to see so many eager young minds ready to seize the opportunities that technology offers,” he said.

The event featured Mr. Nigeria, a former TIC and chairmanship aspirant for Ilorin West, as the guest speaker. He emphasized the essential role of digital skills in today’s world, stating, “Digital skills are not just an asset but a necessity. They connect us to a global economy, creating paths for learning, innovation, and entrepreneurship—all from right here in Ilorin West.”

He further highlighted the program’s inclusive approach, aiming to empower not just youth but also women, local entrepreneurs, and students. “Our goal is to break down barriers to technology, ensuring that no one in Ilorin West is left behind in this digital age,” he added.

The program, detailed by the HOD of Education in her goodwill message, covers a broad range of competencies—from basic computer literacy to advanced skills in areas such as programming, data analysis, graphic design, and digital marketing. “By the end of this program, each participant will have the certification and knowledge to thrive in today’s digital economy and contribute meaningfully to our community’s development,” she noted.

Development Officer Hon. Ajia expressed appreciation for the support and cooperation from partners, stakeholders, and the trainees themselves. He congratulated the successful candidates and acknowledged the vital contributions of instructors, sponsors, and community leaders in making the initiative possible.

Out of 8,152 applicants, 1,000 were selected to participate in this first phase, Hon. Ladan announced, with plans for additional phases to provide further opportunities to interested candidates. “This is only the beginning. We are committed to ongoing digital training for Ilorin West,” he assured.

In his closing remarks, Chairman Ladan extended his gratitude to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for creating an environment conducive to such opportunities. He urged the trainees to remain dedicated, seeing this program as a launchpad for their future careers and a means to grow the local economy.

Hon. Ladan congratulated the beneficiaries once more, pledging continued support for the program and reaffirming his commitment to advancing education and digital literacy within Ilorin West. “Together, we are building a future for Ilorin West where everyone has the tools and knowledge to succeed,” he concluded.
