The Executive Chairman of Ifelodun Local Government, Hadji Abdulrasheed Femi Yusuf has inaugurated a merit award selection committee in a bid to immortalize individual who have made contributions to the growth of the local Government at the Council Secretariat in Share in Thursday.

The committee has been tasked with the responsibility of transparently identifying and recommending individuals, groups, and institutions, -both past and present- whose efforts have played a critical role in the development of the local government across various sectors.

“We must recognize those who gave their lives and strength for the betterment of our local government. These heroes deserve to be celebrated. History must remember them, and posterity must learn from their stories. Both the living and the departed should be acknowledged so the younger generation can know who built our beloved Ifelodun.”

The Chairman cited the recent commissioning of a road naming project in Igbaja, named in memory of the late Jagun of Igbaja, Balogun Lukman Jagun, as an example of such recognition.

“Lukman Balogun Jagun fought vigorously to protect lives and property in our community. That road naming project was our way of honoring his legacy. In the same spirit, we are inaugurating this high-level committee to identify more of such unsung heroes and give them a place in the annals of our history.”

“We will domesticate this initiative through a legislative framework so it becomes part of our tradition—a byelaw that will stand the test of time.”

The newly inaugurated committee is chaired by Dr. Babatunde Salami, a former Executive Chairman of Ifelodun Local Government.
