Group urges opposition to desist from distorting Obi’s speeches

Obi-dient movement demands extension of voter registration

A group, Peter Obi Support Network (POSN), supporting the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has described the puncturing of every public speech Obi makes by his opponents as ‘defeatist posturing.’

According to a statement issued, yesterday, by the Director, Strategic Communication of the group, Onwuasoanya Jones, the group condemned the attitude of Obi’s political opponents, especially the other presidential candidates’ campaign organisations, describing it as “shamefully resorting to outright distortion and mischievous misquoting of Obi’s speeches in a futile bid to discredit him and bring him down to the level of their candidates.”

According to the group, Obi’s information on the world economy, governance structure, and secrets of successful, secured and democratic nations of the world remain a big plus to him.

The statement said: “The resort to misquoting his speeches and attempting to put words in his mouth is a strategy by struggling opposition to slow down the energy and passion with which Obi, who is, undoubtedly, the most acceptable, most prepared, and most patriotic of the candidates, have approached the contest.”

IN another development, members of the Obi-dient movement in support of the presidential candidate of the opposition Labour Party (LP), Mr Peter Obi, have called on INEC to extend the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

The group, led by Tanko Yunusa, at a press conference in Abuja, explained that millions of eligible voters would be disenfranchised if the Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu-led INEC insists on ending the exercise on Saturday, July 30.

Flanked by dozens of his members, Yunusa, who decried the hiccups associated with the malfunction of INEC machines during the exercise, called for extension of the voter registration exercise to the end of November this year.

Faulting the notion held in certain quarters that Obi cannot mobilise enough votes in the northern part of the country, the group called on INEC to sustain the initiative of allowing more eligible voters to register online.

Lamenting the appalling level of insecurity, infrastructure and economic backwardness in the country, the group maintained that Obi has the qualities of a hands-on 21st-century leader, who understands the dynamics of governance both at the local, national and global levels.
