A business mogul and former Social Democratic Party (SDP) senatorial candidate for Kwara North in the 2023 general elections, Alhaji Adamu Attahiru Manko, has endorsed Senator Sadiq Umar and Kwara State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Salihu-Danladi, for the governorship seat ahead of the 2027 elections.
Manko made this known on Tuesday during a media parley with the Association of Kwara Online Media Practitioners (ASKOMP) at his residence in Ilorin.
The Patigi-born politician, who recently rejoined the All Progressives Congress (APC), reaffirmed his strong support for the zoning of the governorship position to Kwara North in 2027.
He stated:
“I am fully in support of the agitation to zone the governorship seat to Kwara North in the 2027 general elections. I believe it is time for our zone to produce the next governor. Kwara Central has governed for 18 years through the leadership of Lawal, Saraki, and His Excellency Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq. Kwara South has also held the seat for eight years. In the spirit of justice and fairness, it is Kwara North’s turn.
“We understand that politics is a game of numbers. We are appealing to other zones to support this just cause. We will continue to lobby, appeal, and engage critical stakeholders in the party to support the Kwara North agenda.
“We have competent and capable personalities such as Senator Sadiq Umar, the Speaker of the State Assembly, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Salihu-Danladi, and others who have shown interest in contesting. We will remain united and determined to make it happen in 2027.”
Speaking on his defection, Manko announced his intention to contest again for the Kwara North Senatorial seat.
“There’s nothing wrong with returning to the APC, which I consider my political home, to pursue my senatorial ambition. My father has been a progressive-minded politician for over 40 years. My people supported me in 2023 and encouraged our return home. I believe the APC is the right platform, as its ideology aligns with my progressive philosophy. What happened in 2023 was a child of necessity. Now, I’m back home,” Manko explained.
Assessing the current administration, Manko commended President Bola Tinubu and Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for implementing people-oriented policies, programs, and projects that benefit the masses.
