The Federal Government has reiterated its strong commitment to supporting Nigeria’s nascent electric vehicle (EV) industry, highlighting its potential to drive industrial growth, local manufacturing, and job creation.
Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole, made the pledge during a visit to Saglev Incorporated’s electric vehicle assembly plant in Lagos on Wednesday. The visit underscores the Tinubu administration’s continued emphasis on fostering innovation and prioritising Nigerian investors in the country’s industrial policy.
“The Nigeria-first policy of President Tinubu is committed to supporting investors exactly like the demographic we’re seeing here,” Oduwole said. “From industrial policy to trade policy to investment policy, this administration is focused on Nigerian investors and putting them first so they can thrive.”
The minister hailed Saglev’s EV facility as a beacon of sustainable innovation, noting that the vehicles assembled at the plant could play a transformative role in Nigeria’s transport and logistics sectors.
“These high-end electric vehicles use about 80 per cent less power, and that kind of efficiency is exactly what our mobility sector needs to leap forward,” she added.
Dismissing claims that Nigerians shun locally made goods, Oduwole stated that citizens are highly patriotic and increasingly supportive of homegrown brands and products.
Saglev Incorporated is among the pioneers of electric vehicle production in Nigeria, positioning itself as a key player in the country’s transition to cleaner and more efficient transportation solutions. The company’s growing footprint aligns with the government’s broader goals of green industrialisation and economic diversification.
