The Christian community in Kwara State has organized a 3-day Unity Prayer Grand Finale to commemorate the sixth anniversary of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s administration. The prayer session, themed “Prayer for the Executive Governor and 2027 in Focus,” was convened by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Religion (Christian Affairs), Reverend Timothy Akangbe, and held in Ilorin.
In his sermon, Ilorin-based cleric Reverend James Taiwo Aweda of UMCA Rehoboth City Church, Oyun, emphasized the importance of praying for leaders, describing leadership as a challenging responsibility. He noted that citizens must support constituted authorities through prayers to foster prosperity and overcome national challenges.
Also speaking, the State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Bishop Sunday Timothy Adewole, urged Christians to actively participate in politics and become card-carrying members of political parties as the 2027 general elections approach. He affirmed that no one rises to leadership without God’s knowledge and described Governor Abdulrazaq as a performing leader divinely appointed for the state. The CAN Chairman prayed for the Governor’s continued success and encouraged his appointees to work closely with him to achieve set goals. He also commended the Governor for ensuring Christians receive their due entitlements.
In his remarks, Reverend Akangbe said the gathering was organized to celebrate the power of prayer, unity, and collective support for the Governor. He highlighted the event as a demonstration of community spirit and solidarity, thanking Governor Abdulrazaq for his trust and confidence.
Delivering her goodwill message, the Permanent Secretary for Service Welfare, Dr. Olufunke Shittu, appreciated the SSA for organizing the program in honor of the Governor and urged Christians not to relent in praying for the state.
The prayer session for the state was led by Reverend Peter Adeleye and Pastor Alfred Ojo, who prayed for continued unity, peace, and the success of Governor Abdulrazaq’s administration. The event also featured scripture readings by Pastor Ojo Olanrewaju and Alao Peter Oluwagbemi.
