1 min read

The Katsina State government has deployed more security forces in the Malumfashi Local Government Area following a deadly attack by bandits that killed 13 worshippers in a mosque on Tuesday.

The state’s Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasir Mu’azu, confirmed that the attack was a reprisal against the Unguwan Mantau community.According to Mu’azu, the community had successfully defended itself against the bandits two days earlier, ambushing them and killing many of them while also rescuing victims and seizing weapons.

The bandits retaliated by shooting indiscriminately at worshippers during Fajr (dawn) prayers in the mosque.

In response, security agencies, including the Nigerian Army’s Forward Operating Base and the Nigerian Police Force, have been deployed to the area to restore normalcy.

Mu’azu noted that bandits often use the rainy season’s dense crops as cover to carry out their attacks, and the government is committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice. He also commended the “gallantry and disposition” of the Unguwan Mantau community for their efforts in resisting the criminals.

The state government has extended its condolences to the affected families and reaffirmed its support for community-based security initiatives as part of its strategy to eliminate criminal elements from the region.
