Atiku Praise CBN for Extension For Submission Of Old Naira Notes
2 min readThe Presidential Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, has praised the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for extending the deadline for the submission of old Naira notes. He expressed his appreciation for the CBN’s decision to listen to the voices of the Nigerian people, who had called for an extension of the January 31st deadline to minimize the adverse effects of the change on the most vulnerable members of the society.
In a tweet posted on his official Twitter handle, Abubakar said, “It is commendable that the CBN finally listened to the patriotic voices for a slight extension of the January 31 deadline for the exchange of old Naira notes to minimize its adverse effects on the most vulnerable of our people.” He went on to suggest that the CBN encourage banks to step up their mobile banking activities to ensure that Nigerians in remote areas and the unbanked benefit from this extension.
The CBN had earlier announced that the deadline for the exchange of old Naira notes was set for January 31st, 2023.
However, following widespread criticism, the deadline was extended to February 10th, 2023, giving Nigerians more time to change their old notes to new ones. The decision was made after considering the difficulties faced by Nigerians in remote areas and those who do not have access to banking services.
Abubakar, in his statement, also expressed hope that Nigerians would take advantage of this new window to change their old notes to new ones. He said, “It is my hope that Nigerians will take advantage of this new window to change their old notes to new ones.”
The CBN’s decision to extend the deadline for the exchange of old Naira notes has been widely welcomed by the Nigerian public. Many Nigerians had expressed concern over the initial deadline, stating that it was unrealistic and would put an undue burden on the most vulnerable members of the society. The extension has given them a much-needed reprieve and a chance to take care of their financial obligations without undue stress.
In conclusion, the extension of the deadline for the exchange of old Naira notes by the CBN has been praised by the Presidential Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar. He has commended the CBN for listening to the voices of the Nigerian people and encouraged them to take advantage of this new window to change their old notes to new ones. He has also suggested that the CBN encourage banks to step up their mobile banking activities to ensure that Nigerians in remote areas and the unbanked benefit from this extension.
