The Ilorin East Local Government Secretariat, Oke-Oyi, was agog on Tuesday as the Executive Chairman, Mallam Garba Olayinka Lukman Agbelere, celebrated his first year in office with a colourful anniversary event that attracted dignitaries, traditional rulers, political leaders, and community stakeholders.

A major highlight of the celebration was a mega empowerment programme, where 250 youths received start-up kits after completing intensive training in solar installation, biogas production, and maggot-to-fish feed processing. Speaking at the event, Agbelere explained that the initiative was aimed at equipping young people with practical skills to foster self-reliance and strengthen the local economy.
In fulfillment of his commitment to achieving “zero darkness” in Ilorin East, the council chairman also unveiled a 200KVA transformer for the Idi-Igba/Were community in Ibagun Ward. The project, facilitated by Alhaji Saadudeen Salaudeen, Senior Adviser and Counselor to the Governor, is expected to significantly improve electricity supply and ease the burden of residents.

To boost legislative efficiency, Agbelere presented a newly purchased legislative bus to councillors, enhancing mobility and productivity in the discharge of their duties.
The occasion further witnessed Agbelere being honoured with awards by the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, Ilorin East Branch, in recognition of his contributions to education and healthcare development.

Another key moment was the launch of a special magazine documenting his one-year stewardship. The unveiling was performed by APC stalwart and governorship hopeful, Ambassador Abdulfatah Yahyah Seriki Gambari, who also announced a multi-million-naira donation to individuals, groups, traditional rulers, and the newly empowered youths.

Among the dignitaries in attendance were Hon. Arinola Fatima Lawal of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hajia Lateefat Motunrayo Garba (First Lady of Ilorin East), Rt. Hon. Adam Mustapha Aduagba (Speaker), councillors, supervisory councillors, party executives, community elders, and other top government officials.
Stakeholders praised Agbelere’s leadership, describing his first year in office as a period of purposeful governance, with visible achievements across education, healthcare, infrastructure, electricity, and youth empowerment.
